Innovation requires a diversity of thinking and widespread collaboration. My goal is to connect researchers across the globe to drive the scientific community towards addressing society’s greatest concern–sustainable management of Earth and human systems. I aim to establish a baseline understanding of how ecosystems function naturally and predict the influence of disturbances and human activities on hydrological, biogeochemical, and ecological processes. Building on this baseline, I explore how human interventions can improve the ability for natural ecosystems to mitigate climate change by amplifying atmospheric carbon uptake. Among my primary research interests are:

Biogeochemical cycling across the continuum of terrestrial, aquatic, and coastal ecosystems

•The connectivity of hydrological and biogeochemical cycles

•The sensitivity of ecosystem structure and function to future change

•The feasibility and scalability of diverse carbon dioxide removal strategies
